Iris biometrics developer IriTech has teamed up with imaging and illumination specialist Heptagon to produce a mobile iris scanning solution. Called UEYE, the system combines IriTech’s iris recognition algorithms with Heptagon’s mobile imaging platform.

It’s a solution aimed not just at mobile devices, but also at PCs and the various devices emerging through the nascentInternet of Things. In that last area in particular, the companies’ efforts to ensure low power consumption could prove highly advantageous to OEMs; and in all applications UEYE’s use of depth information to reduce scanning times while improving accuracy should also be appealing.

IriTech’s contribution is also of particular importance, of course, with Heptagon EVP Erik Volkerink noting that its “leading edge algorithms and technologies have been proven to perform extremely well in large field studies.” Having established itself with previously releases including software development kits and a biometric time and attendance tracking system, IriTech is now in a position to make a significant impact in the mobile and IoT markets with its Heptagon collaboration.

Commenting in a statement, IriTech CEO Daehoon Kim said, “Mobile customers are looking for complete solutions and close collaboration between sensor and biometrics vendors is essential to drive value and adoption forward.”
