The German Federal Police have formally adopted Jenetric’s award-winning Livetouch Quattro tenprint fingerprint scanner in an effort to provide better border security in accordance with the European Entry and Exit System. The Police will deploy 1,700 fingerprint scanners over the course of the multi-year agreement, with 900 units to be delivered before the end of 2019.

The news comes just over a month after the German Federal Office certified the compact version of Jentric’s Quattro reader, and two years after authorities first began trialing the technology at the Frankfurt Airport. In addition to capturing high-quality fingerprint images, the Livetouch Quattro provides feedback to the user to make the fingerprint enrollment process as quick and easy as possible.

“The acceptance of biometric applications is highly determined by the user-friendliness of the systems. In our case, the user is told where, how long and which fingers to place and when the process is finished,” said Jenetric co-founder and CEO Roberto Wolfer. “We are pleased that the German Federal Police has taken this aspect into account and that our devices are now being used at all airports in Germany.”

The European Entry and Exit System is designed to protect the Schengen area. In addition to other security measures, it requires fingerprint enrollment for non-EU citizens crossing the borders of member states, a process that should now be far more efficient thanks to the integration of Jenetric’s technology.
